Canberra Homebirth Rally

Important update:
Pre - Rally welcome will begin at 10:45am at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy
see below for further details

Attend the Rally for Homebirth at Parliament House in Canberra 10.45am - 2:30pm on 7 September being organised by our sister organisation, Homebirth Australia. This needs to be the "MOTHER of all rallies". To be effective we need AT LEAST 2,000 people in attendance.

We need as many mums, dads, grandparents, sisters and babies as possible to travel to Canberra to show the people power. You don't need to have had or be planning a homebirth to attend - you simply need to support the principle that women can make informed choices about the type of evidence-based birth care they want. For more information see http://homebirthaustralia.org or Facebook event page: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=114465002243&comments#/event.php?eid=89004797283&ref=nf

Make sure everyone knows about this rally! Download a rally flyer here and put it up on community notice boards: http://www.maternitycoalition.org.au/downloads/RallyFlier_Final.pdf

Rally for Homebirth - 7 September

Homebirth Australia is organising a rally in Canberra from 10.45am til 2:30pm on 7 September 2009.

Pre - Rally welcome will begin at 10:45am at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy
Queen Victoria Terrace in front of Old Parliament House

Acknowledgement of Indigenous Women and their Struggle

Rally participants are invited to come into country the correct way and contribute to healing of past traumas. Join the Ngunnawal people, at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy  (ATE). For an official Welcome To Country. We can demonstrate reconciliation in action by acknowledging and  learning about the struggle of Indigenous women to assert their birth  rights/rites.

Senior law woman Aunty Isobell Coe has given permission for the rally to begin at the ATE and Fleur Magick will preside at the ceremony around the scared fire for peace and justice to educate people about the struggle for Indigenous Sovereignty, to assert traditional law, birth customs and rights in birthing and the cultural, spiritual, and historical significance of the ATE.
