NATIONAL MATERNITY ACTION PLAN LAUNCH IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The WA launch was very successful. The speakers did a great job of discussing the issues raised in the NMAP from their individual perspectives. The room looked fantastic with the 'Push for Reform' posters and our community midwifery banners.

Channel Ten news attended the media conference as did 6PR radio and community newspaper the Western Suburbs Weekly. The story Channel Ten ran was very clear and precise. In addition we had an article in the West Australian daily newspaper, an article in the Fremantle Herald, hourly coverage on 92.9fm and 94.5 commercial radio, interviews on several community radio stations and possibly other coverage that I am unaware of.

The Hon. Giz Watson tabled the NMAP in State Parliament on the evening of 24 September. She has been very supportive and spoke at the media conference despite suffering from a leg injury.

We had an informal gathering following the conference and then the Hon. Louise Pratt invited us to Parliament House for nibblies and drinks in the evening. We spoke to the Hon. Bob Kucera, WA Health Minister and a couple of female politicians but were disappointed by the lack of female politicians who came to talk to us.
